About me...
Mitzi Smith, MFA, is an Educator, Performer, and Director with professional Broadway Casting experience. She received her BFA in Musical Theatre from The Boston Conservatory and her MFA from San Diego State University.
As an educator, Mitzi has taught Acting, Voice & Movement, Dance, Theatre History and Professional Development at a collegiate level. A former Broadway casting director, (having worked with Tommy Tune, Arthur Laurents, Kathleen Marshall & Baayork Lee,) Mitzi offers a unique insight into what it takes to make the transition from aspiring actor to theatre professional.
Mitzi is devoted to decolonized curriculum development for theatre students. She has worked with the American Music and Dramatic Academy on effective research methods and performance criteria for their BFA students. In addition, Mitzi is a professional actress who has appeared at many regional theaters such as Cygnet, The Welk Resort, Diversionary, Broadway Palm and Moonlight Amphitheatre, favorite shows include Monty Python’s Spamalot, Sweeney Todd and playing the title role in Funny Girl. Concert work includes singing with Carlos Santana and The Boston Pops.
Mitzi is a member of ATHE & MTEA. Originally from California, she currently lives in the Chicagoland area with her family.
